1.Boat's mainsail luff(unreefed) is 36 feet(11 meters) tall
2.Trysail area in suqare feet = 36 x 36 = 1.296 x 1,296 = 64 suqare feet.Round up to 65 square fee
3.Trysail area in square in square meters 11 x 11 = 121 x 0.05 = 6.05 square meters.Round down to 6 square meters.
Size of storm Headsail
The recomended area for a spitfire jib or storm staysail on a long keeled traditional crusing yacth is 2,5 percent of the heigth of the foretriangel.
To maintain proper helm balance in heavy winds more modern yacts whose cuteaway forefeet encourage the bow to blow leeward need either a smaller storm staysail or one carried farther aft on its own stay
